Edition38 work as a group on basically all decisions. We all have our input to the decisions made (whether our ideas are materialised or not!), but we also all have our specialities. We all have a field of expertise where we are relied upon. The new Edition38 site then, despite the work building the site is predominantly by one or two members, is just as much a team effort as the show is.
First, come the ideas. Ideas are put forward, and these are discussed to establish what goes into the planning phase of the site. What we want the site to achieve, what we want it to say about us, what features we want it to have.
Then comes the concepts. We have to make sure the concepts are something that we all are into, something that really screams what we are all about. We sometimes will defer to designers who are able to take our vision (in this particular case, @creativeye), and transfer that to something that is not only pretty to look at, but a doddle to use, and update.
Then, the build. Any web developers (or builders of any kind) know that getting from design to function is not always straightforward. In the end, some compromises need to be made, but in this case - we were fortunate. It was possible to stay true to the concepts - yet the pages still give us the flexibility we required of the site.
Lastly, the content. A common phrase amongst web developers is 'Content is King'. In our case, we have the fortunate benefit of not needing to worry about such things as Search Engine Optimisation. If you know who we are - you know where to find us. If you don't know - you probably aren't going to be into what we do anyway. Many of the crew put hands on deck to help get content together for the site, so it can launch with a healthy, if not abundant amount of content.
At time of launch, we have three Edition 38 cars on here. Immediately we have some blog content. Immediately we have content about the show and other pages where things need to be said. The whole site has been designed to stay in motion - the blog will be updated. The gallery will be updated.
Our site is often thought of as just a forum - and we plan to change that. Some forum plans are in motion, but there are other things to get live on here first. We have more cars to shoot, more show news to announce, more rambling to do.
Ultimately, we all want the site that we run, to represent the way we feel about dubs, and about our show. Its hard work, but its rewarding - and we do it - just 'cause we love it.
