  2. Small resto on my mk2

Holy crap.. I've never seen someone actually weld the centres.. Did you just keep filling on top of the previous welds??
  3. Lermy's ragtop lupo

Can't wait to see it on the OZs..
  4. Van insurance

Thanks I got it down to around 590 per year, paid in full up front, for TPF&T. Playing with the mileage, it didn't make a difference if I entered 2,000 or 5,000 per year, so might as well use the higher number to be safe. Funny that TPO is always higher than with fire and theft added. I guess a hundred quid more for a massive van compared to your Combo isn't much either..
  5. Rear Callipers

I haven't ever done that. Just did a Jetta 5 last week so it's fresh in my mind. I guess it would be prudent if you've added fluid in case it is now overfilled - that way you could watch it, but I doubt it'd even happen. There's no way that it's creating pressure that would stop the caliper retracting if that's what you're wondering.
  6. Van insurance

Hi All, I've got a VW LT35 that gets used for about a month total per year. With the new insurance rules, I'd like to leave it on a policy continuously throughout the year even though there maybe may 2 months between it being used, with a annual total of around 2,000-3,000 miles. It's on a P plate and is a bog standard white van registered to me privately. Is there any sort of policy that might be suitable for me to keep the costs down? I'm hoping the limited use and mileage will help. If it also helps, I'm old enough and drive slow enough to hopefully be a pretty low risk group too :-) Thanks, Jamie
  7. Rear Callipers

You must be doing it wrong. There is NO need to open the bleeder, not to remove it from the car. When you're twisting it, are you also PUSHING it? It needs both actions to retract. Did your tool set come with two different direction options? Make sure you're tightening it clockwise. Some of the newer cheap kits come with both directions, but only one is needed for VWs. (You can see the two direction winders on this kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAKE-CALIPER-PISTON-REWIND-WIND-BACK-TOOL-KIT-22-PCS-/170774603286?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item27c2f5a616#ht_3599wt_1270).
  8. Continetal tyres

The difference between a 215/40 and a 225/40 is exactly 10mm.. (I assume you meant 215/40, and not the impossible 215/49 that you typed) so it's not like there's much of a difference between them. 215 is 8.46" and 225 is 8.85", so there's not too much of a stretch.
  9. Split rim splitting in west yorkshire?

Seriously pay attention to what Pepe said about the bolts snapping. They really like to snap. REALLY. And they're a PITA to drill out too, so definitely give them a couple of days to soak in some fluid first. IIRC they use a triple square (twelve point) like the axles use. They also come in 5x100 on Golf/Boras :-)
  10. Driveshafts for a 6 speed mk4

No and no. Sorry. I tried with my anniversary, and nothing worked. I had to step up and buy the real ones.
  11. Wheel bolts for 15mm adaptors

    Simple really - your standard bolts + 15mm or 20mm ;-)
  12. brakes pedal sinking

Yup, first check if it's pumping up (building pressure and getting harder when you repeatedly press it). If not, is it losing fluid? Don't let it get too far below the minimum.. If that's the case, look for leaks. Rear drums? Might be inside there, the cylinders go bad. If no leaks, check for a broken hose that's bulging but not leaking - it's a random one but it's happened before.
  13. 2.0 8v 5000rpm limit. ARGGG!

Mine does this too after a swap into a Polo. I think it's the same with the USA ABA swaps, as is down to something in the cluster.. I don't think it's your timing in my opinion.
  14. 1975 Golf Mk1

Love it. I never get sick of seeing Swallowtails!
