  1. Dans White MK1 Golf - THE BUILD

Yes mate, absolutely no issue's at all and runs at a good temp. I would probably advise running 2x smaller fans rather than 1x big though (just to get the right coverage). OR even have one on an override switch to flick on when you think you may need it. You just got to make sure you got to get the correct pressure cap, for an ABF it's about 22psi. If you get too low then the system will just vent and cause it to overheat because it can't hold the pressure.

    Cheers mate

Been enjoying this car through-out summer, still things to sort but always good fun to drive! Got a few oil leaks around the engine that need sealing up. Now running 165 jets in the centre, 160 jets on the outside with needle at its leanest, 3 an a 1/2 turns out on the pilot adjustment, still running rich! It's rapid to drive though! Feels so so quick I absolutely love it Here's a photo from Bristol's Queen Square meeting
  4. Carbs - Shimming main jets

Hi all, I've ran out of adjustment to lower my needle and I'm running a fairly small jet. I'd like to try shimming my main jet UP as this in theory has a similar affect to lowering the needle - this is ok to do right?

Will be at Queen square breakfast meet this Sunday for any of the Bristol peeps!
  6. Bike carbs - Outer 2 running rich?

Currently running 170 jets in the centre and 165 on the outside, still running rich! Changing to 165 on the inside and 160's on the outside over the weekend so heading in the right direction.
  7. Bike carbs - Outer 2 running rich?

Hey Keeha, I tried leaning it out a lot on the pilot jet and still running very rich! The pilot adjustment is only for idle to quarter throttle anyway so doesn't lean it through-out the entire stroke like a needle/main jet adjustment does. I'll fit the 165's on the outer after Glastonbury and I recon that'll be good to go! Cheers for the advise all
  8. Bike carbs - Outer 2 running rich?

Hey guys, Thanks for your help and good to know Chaz. I'll get some 165 jets so I'll running 170 on the inside and 165 on the outside! It's a 2.0 16v ABF
  9. Bike carbs - Outer 2 running rich?

Hey all, few details on what I've got to start with - 2.0 16v ABF - Kawazaki ZX9R carbs (Keihin CVRs) - Was running 180 jets - way too rich no matter how I adjusted the pilot screw (spark plugs were sooty) Now I'm running 170 jets with the pilot jet adjusted to 3 turns out to lean it off, the inner 2x spark plugs are now a decent bronze colour, the outer 2 are still looking very black! What should I do? Would it make sense to go to a 165 jet on the outer 2x carbs? Would it be a strange adjustment to lean off the pilot jets on JUST the outer 2 carbs? Cheers all
  10. Dans White MK1 Golf - THE BUILD

Cheers all! Got a quick few snaps today, I popped to the lock-up to swap the 180 jets for 170 jets to lean it off a bit, I found the 180's way too rich no matter what I did. Will see how this runs next weekend. I have to fit a new caliper first though as the thread inside my right rear has stripped The light bounce from this image has me tempted to do the centre of the wheels white?!

Got the car running much better after a bit of test driving! On these Keihin CVR carbs I'm running them with the 180 jets, backed of the pilot screw to 3 and 1/2 turns out and removed the 0.6mm washers from the needle yet it's still running too rich! I think it's time to get it to a rolling road for them to do their magic to be honest. Anyways, more interesting stuff. These bad boys are now plumbed in so bleeding is MUCH easier than being hidden away under my dash Sidelights looking rad Then I realised my Atiwe's needed a bit of a polish when I was waiting for some parts to arrive! Popped the window out and fitted the tailgate vinyl, this was easier than I was expecting! For anyone paying close attention to this thread will remember I mounted the coil on the back of the engine. Well I changed my mind about this and made a little bracket to hang it off the mounts for the bumper Dropped in place under the crumple zone (I've ordered a rubber boot to protect terminals and made a deflector since) Also I had a Corsa B 1.0 16v Radiator in there which was recommended by a few but I thought it was a load of poo! Gets hot way too easy. Binned this off for fit a Nova 2.0 16v GSI radiator, £135 off ebay and a fine bit of kit! TADAAA Sexy. And a little Golf on my strut brace to match

Love the yellow on the interior! If it was me I don't think I would put carpets in
  13. MIL-C Connectors

Anyone got a UK source for MIL-C style connectors to make a quick release wiring loom?

Page 16 mate Basically in summary I made a longer pedal! If you don't you end up with an incredibly short throttle stroke with motorbike carbs. I then made a strong return spring you can see on the photos from that page. I couldn't work something on the back of the carbs so used 2x mini return springs on the pedal - works a treat. If you look on eBay I seen you can now get some pretty decent universal throttle pedals with a spring built in. May be worth taking a look at those and welding one of them in place!

Go mad! Just search on ebay for 'braided sleeving', you want around 8mm diametre and it's about £3 for 5 metres! Huge range of colour schemes and patterns available. Let us know what you end up with and thank you for your kind words
