Gary's Golf MK3 Anni 16v

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I thought i might aswell start up a readers rides thread, seeing as i have all the photos to have one.

Brought the MK3 Golf Anni 16v whilst i was still trying to sell my old mk4 gt tdi.

I've had it since beginning of may

Here's a few pics of how i brought it, it came on -20mm lowering springs, was okay i guess for the time being.

Shortly after owning it, I managed to get hold of a new carpet for the car, as the one in it was really grubby & horrible. Here's some pics of it completely stripped out.

Here's everything that came out of it: lol

Install:

I had all my install/audio bits & bobs from a few years left sitting around, so decided i might aswell put it to good use,

Got the following things to put it in:

Helix Dark Blue 1000.2 Amp to power a JL 12W7

Helix Audio Dark Blue 4 to power my front comps - Helix Competition RS6

Alpine 9886r headunit.

Also got some sound deadening, which i have started to do. unfortunately havent got any photos to show. However all this good put to a side, so i could get my exterior sorted.

Exterior

I decided if i gave myself a deadline for Inters, i would get things done, instead of p*ssing about.

So myself & Haris got busy a week before Inters, we had the following things to do:

Alloys:

Borbet T's 16x9 all round - Refurb & polish .. Find right tyre size .. buy tyres .. fit them .. & then fit them to the car

Suspension:

Fit coilovers - ta technics .. sort stance out

Styling:

fit Vento front end ..

So we got to work on the alloys first, started by giving them a good wash because they were filthy..

Then got masking... Ready for nitromers to strip lacquer off the dishes...

Blue centres?

P180609_1651.jpg

right then used nitromers to strip the lacquer back and washed them again...

Now have just been preparing them ready to mirror polish the dishes...

started by getting rid of any kerbing

Got a bit more done today, started wet sanding

More wet sanding

Then gave them a wash

Started polishing

Only done half the dish for now, need the smaller mops to do the rest.

I had to mission it to Birmingham friday morning to get the tyres, and get them fitted before the weekend. Just about got it done.

Suspension

When it came round to fitting the coilovers that week, we thought its an easier job, be done in a couple of hours, then we came to quite a big problem trying to undo the top bolt on the front, as the the allen key wouldn't sit inside the thread to undo it, after many attempts i pulled out the power drill & went mental on it, just drilled it out, unfortunately there was no photos of this happens, as i was getting frustrated and Haris was just laughing away at me!

Whilst we was fitting the coilovers, we decided to remove the front arch linings - to find this:

Loads of mud just gathered up behind the arch lining & sill corner.

Vento Front End

I always wanted to do a vento front on a mk3, initially i thought u wouldnt change the exterior looks too much, but it always happens, you got to do what you got to do. So about a month ago, i started looking for a one, and one came up on ed38 in a "purpley blue", so i jumped at the chance to go get it, as it must be msytic blue, but the guy didnt know the color code or name. So i got there to find it was a identical color match, so happy days :)

here's a before & after

After pic with the vento front on without the bonnet & lowered on coilovers:

I loveeeee how it looks without a bonnet, i took a little drive like that, had so many people stare & flash at me lol

with the bonnet on:

Detailing session:

A few of my mates refer to my car as the "Swirl", as in the sun, it really is just one big swirl, paint work is actually shockingly bad.

So i managed to hold of a megs g220 machine polisher, and spent about

After reading around & a bit of research, was going for 205/40 16, but coudnt find none at a good price before inters, so i ended up gong for 195/45 16, was happy that i did :)

Looks wicked mate, nice work. Used to run Borbet T's on my old mk3 (9's all round ofcourse) and they work really well. Saying that though, I really like how it looked dropped on the Anni wheels too

Looked mint on Sunday Gary - the borbets suit it down to the ground!

Didnt realise you replaced the carpets, makes the interior look mint.

The stance is spot on and it looked nice and wide when I was following you after inters :)

I had brought some rear CL lights and front orange indicators before Inters, but they arrived this week.

I initial idea was to red -black -red on the rears & fronts red indicators. But i like all reds better so left them red until i get bored.lol. Here's a few pics:

Red indicators

Today i decided i don't like the red indicators, so sanded them back, to be orange again. i cant put my original smoked ones back in, cos i broke one of the clips :(

Orange indicators

I really need to get my arches rolled so i can go a abit lower, 'cos currently i cant have a passenger without scrubbing a lot - its okay with just me driving about.

Just a quick install update, its how it's going to look. I haven't got any more pics at the moment.

Looks great! How did you find it dropping from a mk4 to a mk3? Something i'm thinking of doing to save myself some extra cash.

I prefer the mk3 to be honest, only thing i miss about the mk4 is the interior i feel is so much nicer.

Excellent work dude, nice stuff B)

Thanks :)
