so with my last build thread having a terrible title i decided i start a new 1. heres some previous info pasted from the last.

hi heres my j plate mk2 golf gti. originally found half built it was in need of many hours extra work and a bit of my hard earned cash. heres some of the spec so far:

full bare shell respray
new small bumpers, cl side trim and lower spoiler, lower and upper grill and lights all round
new trim and rubber
some suttle deleting and smoothing
fully polished compomotive alloys with custom spiked centre caps wrapped and stretched toyo rubber
fk coilovers
polybushed and complete makeover underneath
g60 front calipers and mk4 rear with drilled and grooved discs and goodridge brake lines
36000mile seat ibiza 20v turbo cupra lump with switchable map able to run over 210bhp
full mint golf rallye half leather electric interior
and loads more. heres some pics so far
























so after alot of work, trials, problems, time and a bit of my hard earned cash, i with the help of some friends got it to this stage:

so here we go. ive been wanting to update the thread for ages now but wanted to keep what i was doing quiet until U.D 2012 where i got a spot inside the halls.

this will end up being a large update so lets crack on.

the end of last year i had ideas of what i wanted to achieve over the winter months and first was a change of wheels. id been searching for the right set for ages at a decent price and then came accross these bbs rs 070s in 15" 4x100 fitment. with tyres and 8/8.5 width wheels they would be perfect for a rebuild and the price was good. even better they werent to far away and the seller rich was a top bloke.

heres how i got them:






now they werent in a bad condition but not good enough for what i was after so a full on refurb was the plan.

now ive got to be honest i stood there for ages just staring at the car. even tho i liked the look before i just felt that when putting the rs's on it took it straight to the next level. it was like they where the bit that was missing from the puzzle. i was very

now it was time to break them down and with the help of a friend whos split n built plenty (my 1st set) we got to it.







plenty of bits. now the plan was a simple 1 rebuild them the same as i got them. i think they looked perfect so that was the plan.

1st step was to get them blasted and then powdercoated.
here they are after the blasting:




they then got taken to a local powdercoater for a nice simple silver coating. shame this didnt happen!!!

because the powder coater i choose wasnt a wheel specialist and it being my 1st experience with the process we had problems.

here they are when i collected them





now the job was good but as you can see they didnt match. the barrels and centre rings did but the face was way off. great!!!
i was told that this is a problem with silver and because the difference of thickness between the pieces. basically parts get hotter than others quicker and then bake different and you get the difference. he was happy to speed up the process and try the centres again but as he did the same problem happened again. he tried fobbing me off with some bullpoo but basically i dont take that n got some of my money back. trouble is i was back to square 1 again.

i decided during these problems that if i had to go elsewhere i was going to go all out and get them chrome powdercoated. i ended up finding a company fairly local and they did a proper good job.

also needing the dishes polished and the caps n hunted on google for a polisher and ended up finding a company local which turned out to be a old m8 so 4 dishes and 4 caps where sent to him for some bling. 1 of the things i wanted because of the planned stretch was to polish inside the dish as far as possible for that extra touch.
heres how they looked.



i then found these after a mate sent me a link about some full hight centres he'd found for himself.



i litterally ordered these straight away and are genuine buggatti caps

so with the badges delivered the dishes and caps collected aswell as the chrome faces i had to test them together





still there was more to do so i put the original nuts in a jar of vinegar and cleaned them all up of sealer and old paint/crud

crud cleaned off

and then after


so last to get was some new bolts. id found these original bbs stamped bolts cheap so got them


sadly some where perfect and others not, so ended up getting some new 1s off ebay.

so with all the bits sorted and sourced it was time i got them together i was going to do them in the living room


sadly that didnt happen i went to put the dishes on and they wouldnt fit so ended up having to get a precision engineer to machine back the centre of the dishes which i picked up last weds, 3days before U.D 2012. so knowing i would need to leave the sealer for atleast a day i got to building them thursday and even better it was a nice day so done them outside at my grandads where i had been building the car.





so with the 3 pieces sealed together and all the bolts torqued up i could leave them and get the 185/45 nankangs fitted friday. with this done they where holding pressure perfectly and ready to bolt up to the car and heres how they looked at the show.






they looked great under the lights and have really transformed the car. little dissapointed with the stretch was hoping for a bit more being on wider wheels and lesser width tyres but thats the difference between makes. so may change the front tyres and add some spacers to the rear and get it sitting a bit lower but for now and U.D i was over the moon with how the car looked.

Been waiting ages too see this car done, and got to say it doesn't disapoint one bit!
Probably my fav Mk2 in years (along side Tim's Red Big Bumper 1.8T on RS301's)

Only one thing I'd change and that would be the centre badges for some Black/Gold BBS one to compliment the Black/Gold colour of the car.

Thanks for the that, Mk3's been sat in garage for past 3 years as I'm building a sliver small bumper Mk2 , although mine is forced inducted and 6 cylindered! Hopefully it'll be up to the standard/look of yours as it's pretty much perfect in my eyes!

I've seen this car on here a few times now and loved everything about it but always thought the wheels let it down a little, but now it looks complete!

Loved this at UD one of my fave mk2s, the wheels and bay are something else! Awesome car.
