1980 Mk1 Golf CL

09 January 2013 - 10:32 PM

So my lovely E21 has now been sold:

But it does at least have a replacement! After a long journey from Falkirk to Felixstowe on a transporter this little Mk1 Golf CL turned up this afternoon:

It was in a bit of a state when it arrived but has a really good solid shell and a lovely red interior. Pretty much stock bar coilovers and a load of filth.

Plans are to ditch the 15" steel wheels for something a bit more in keeping with the period of the car. Perhaps original 13" Mk1 steels with chrome caps if I can find a set.

Back to 1991...

A few weeks before I was born in 1991 my Dad took delivery of a Mk2 Golf GL 4+E in Royal Blue. I spent the next 12 years traveling around the UK and Europe in it until it was sadly replaced with something a little newer.

10 Years later I came across this little Mk2 by accident but it turned out to be a right little corker so I bought it for my mum as she had always remembered our last Mk2 fondly.

It turned out to be a rare EU spec GL complete with 1.8 8v fuel injected engine and it had been very well looked after to say the least.

A good service, new belts, cam belt tensioner and new original grille later it was ready for action.

Earlier this summer I started to give the car a really good going over...

It got a little bit lower:

The car still has it's original dealer tax disc holder, rear window sticker and rear number plate surround.

Hope you like it!
