Mk1 Golf GTi 2.1 16v

Started off life as a 1.8 8v gti in mars red and ended up in my hands having had a 1.8 16v conversion, smooth tailgate, lowered shocks/springs and sportline interior. Ideal base car for what I planned on doing as it was a non sunroof model. August 04 saw the car undertake a full resto which took around 18 months with practically every part of the car replaced or refinished. This is always the mk1 I've wanted to build and taken inspiration from 3 of the best mk1's around in my opinion…Danny Allen's Orange 16v, Shaz Chugtai's Black 20vt and Darren from VW enterprises Grey 20vt.

Specifications

Engine: kr cylinder head with audi 2.0l 6a bottom end bored out with 83mm pistons to take capacity upto 2.1. Fully chromed/polished, ashley manifold with powerflow custom exhaust system.

Suspension: fk konigsport coilovers - 90mm. Trimsport upper polished strut brace, lower front brace. Powerflex bushes all round.

Wheels: 14 x 8” borbet design t’s - 195/45/14’s.

Brakes: 256mm big brake conversion with grooved brembo max discs and 16v pads. 16v servo & master cylinder. Goodridge braided brake hoses, rear disc conversion.

Exterior: 1983 gti with flush tailgate, aerial hole flushed out of wing & roof, lower sill strips removed and smoothed, arches cut & rolled, original mirrors removed and flushed replaced with racetech carbon mirrors, flushed scuttle & single wiper, smoothed bumpers color coded, chinese color-coded door handles, fk crystal crosshair headlights, all red rear lights, in pro crystal indicators, carbon badgeless grill, alloy filler cap, carbon chin spoiler. Full respray in porsche steingrau metallic.

Interior: cream headlining, rolls royce style sunvisors with grey piping, cream boot with raised iron cross in floor, corrado seats & custom doorcards retrimmed in cream/grey leather . Newton commercial repro carpets. Momo team 280mm steering wheel.

Mk1 Golf GTi 1.8 8v

Originally built in the mid 90's I stumbled upon this through a friend of a friend just sat in their garage for 10 years with a dead bottom end looking extremely sorry for itself covered in dust and missing the front bumper. The guy was moving house so needed it gone, I knew nothing about the car until I turned up and was shocked with what I saw on the drive... a complete old school show car from the mid 90's lavished in carbon and chrome and over the top stereo system. A deal was done and it received a full engine rebuild and an MOT. Not wanting to mess with the overall theme of the car I kept the mods to a minimum by stripping the stereo system and adding stock doorcards and corrado front seats with a stripped out rear. Definitely one of my all time favourite dubs that I’ve owned.

Suspension: Jamex coilovers – 80mm

Wheels: 17 x 7.5” seneka s5r’s with 205/40/17’s

Brakes: Stock gti setup

Exterior: Semi smooth tailgate, side trim holes welded up, clipper kit, rallye front and eyebrow spoiler, race style fuel filler, carbon a pillar trims and mirrors, carbon chin spoiler, beesting aerial, single wiper, smoked rear lights.

Interior: Momo steering wheel, white dials, fully dynamated, momo gearknob, corrado seats, gti doorcards.

Mk2 Golf 1.6 GTD

Built on a strict budget as a fun daily after building the more serious mk1. Bought as a stock GTD which then received coilovers and 8/9x14 RH cups, obligatory German plates and a few funky stickers plus the 'look at me' bonnet bra. US spec side markers/mirror glass and a bullet aerial finished it. Got a revamp on polished turbine wheels along the way. Tried to keep this as OEM as i could

Exterior: 4 lamp grill with black gti badge, us spec side markers and mirror glass, aero wipers, bullet aerial, leopard skin bra, german plates, wolfsburg side repeater blanks

Interior: 90 spec gti red/grey seats and doorcards, yellow mooneyes gearknob
