Ex Darkside Caddy - 350+ BHP 2.0CR TDI 7 Speed DSG 4motion Converion #racevan

Recommended Posts

Iv'e been saying I'm going to do a build thread on this for ages, not sure if it's worthy of one but here it is anyway. (Sorry for the massive 1st post)

When I got the van it was pretty sorted anyway, here is a link to caddy2k.com with the early spec.

http://caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7192&p=62407&hilit=ryanp#p62407

For anyone who can't view this here is a quick copy & paste spec with some pictures from caddy2k too.

It will eventually get a 2260 turbo and bigger injectors so 300hp+ but i like the way the smaller turbo spools so its staying like this while i use it for picking parts up!!"

When I bought the van the fat 5's had been sold. The fat 5's width, offset & TT wide track didn't work well together on this so had been swapped for some S4 wheels which fitted much better.

I drove it like this for a short period but needed to change some bit's I wasn't too sure of, I bought some new wheels to try but these never went any further than the picture below as I had better plans.

These looked ok in my opinion but I wanted a more motorsport wheel, as I had already picked the new graphics for the van.

After a late night google session I found the inspiration needed.

And this is what we came up with.

These were the wheels of choice, 8x18 Compomotive TH with 225 40 18 Uniroyal Rainsport 3's.

Results.

After this I changed the front seats as the Scirocco ones didn't seem to hold you in as well as the replacements, plus I had 3 sets of FR seat's in stock at the time.

IMG_0169_zpsh5hdmeal.jpg

I added an AUX input too.

It's been like this for well over a year now but I have more changes planned as I go more "race mode" with it.

New wheels purchased.

Rebuilt.

Bought some new seats too, will get pics of the seats rather than the box when they're actually fitted.

Front brakes too so I fit in at shows :)

Nothing else to report with this and doubt there will be for a while as I wait for a new rear suspension set up.

Yes it does catch a few out.

MPG is good really, as long as you're steady with the throttle (Which is hard to do :D) It's no worse than my wife's MK5 2.0 TDI

I'm hoping to end up with 4wd but have some other ideas first  ;)

I prefer to surprise people if poss but as above really. More will be revealed soon.  :)

Awesome

Thanks, hopefully it will get much better this year. Although this is still a van and get's used as one so won't be too mental.

nice, would love something similar to this. The rear suspension looks interesting!

Hopefully the new rear end should be a good upgrade.

Just finished mocking the seat bases we made, As I'm a tight bugger I didn't want to buy the once from Corbeau at £80 each. Plus we had some MK5 seats in stock that weren't worth selling so they got the chop.

IMG_0212_zpscmuvstf7.jpg

They seem pretty good but need a bit of work to make them look better once in the van. When you open the door it looks a bit messy in my opinion so I'll make some sort of cover.

Think I'm in love with those BBS E88 I want so much. Looking forward to seeing them mounted.

Me too mate, won't be for a while though unfortunately. Rear axle is holding the job up  :(

We did the same with the BBS's but the wheels looked really small.

It put me off fitting them so I deleted the picture

No worries at all mate, I'm happy you're interested in the build.

The BBS are going on regardless. lol

Hopefully they will look better in real life :)

Looks ace - what have you got in the cargo area - is it carpeted or just ply lined?

It's just ply lined as it's get's used for collecting parts etc.

There is a slight update, let one of the lads take the van to pick something up and it came back with 2 wheels (Compomotives) curbed  :(

This is not a good day.

On a slight plus note they're going for a refurb this afternoon.

Got the wheels back from powder coat yesterday, they're lighter than before which I think shows them off better.
