Muggers mk2 jetta coupe

Recommended Posts

So new year, new project. Must be in the region of 10yrs that i’ve wanted one but finally picked up this jade green example.

Currently rocking it’s factory 1.8 auto and a polo open air electric full length roof. Plans afoot to get all the tat removed and replaced with oem parts just how i like them.

It’s a solid shell, just some curious cosmetic choices by previous owners.

Where did you see it advertised dude? Was on fb but he dropped the price a fair whack on gumtree which is where i saw it then i managed to get a bit more off when i collected it :)

You going small bumper?

What engine is going in it

Staying big bumper mate.

For now i’m keeping the 1.8, it’s got single point injection and chugs along quite happily. I’d probably go with a 16v 5 speed and convert to RHD if i look to do a swap long term.

Big bumper is the way forward. They suit the line of the car much nicer I think.

Just for my own records, current situation.

Wiper arms refurbed from the piss poor jade green paint job. VW badges painted black.

Stockpiling parts to fit, i’d have all the factory lights fitted by now but unfortunately all the aftermarket stuff that’s fitted has completely unique wiring so the original wiring has been butchered.

Currently waiting on some oem wiring to splice back in and stock rear lights to finish it all off.

Proper open air roof switch to be wired in properly as the previous owner’s wiring is absolutely shocking

My usual plate supplier has recently stopped doing the 50% tinted plates so had to make do with the 30% option they provide.

I’ve got a reasonable idea where the general direction is going as i will be keeping this one so next major job/decision other than wheels will be a paint job assuming i can find someone to do it.

Also made a start cleaning up what’s useable inside. Drivers seat is well past it so need to source a uk passenger seat and cannibalise some of the foam and the seat covers but pass side came up okay.

Lack of updates due to lack of motivation!

Been chasing a footwell leak which turned out to be the windscreen seal and bonnet cable grommet.

Biggest headache i have is the roof which is leaking. Managed to source a replacement unit but that has it’s own issues so when i get time i’m going to canabilise the best parts of both.

Have new coilovers to fit and some porsche cayenne’s fitted up with 185/35/17’s and 20mm adapters ready to go on also.

Couple of steering wheels have also come and gone

So stripped down both roofs and made one decent one from the two. Early signs are positive on being leak free so far.

Also made a start on the coilover fitting, rears still to go on in the pic and then i’ll be tweaking the height to get the rim tucking.

The front hasn’t gone quite as low as i expected although i should be able to tweak the final 10mm i need out of them for now. Based on that i ended up ordering some stillstatic H&R ultralow 160 custom coilovers whilst at UD  Should definitely be able to get the lips tucking and then some!

Also dropped another wheel in - this time an Italvolanti imola sport.

i run those on my GAZ coilovers - beautiful piece of kit.  They really pull the top of the wheel in nicely on lock to help arch clearance
